El maxisingle Ray-Gun-Omics es una obra maestra del electro-funk, un género musical que combina elementos del hip-hop, el funk y la música electrónica. Fue lanzado en 1983 por el sello Capitol Records y producido por Rahni P. Harris Jr. y David Spradley. El grupo Project Future estaba formado por David Shawn Sandridge, Debbie Sandridge, Ted Currier y el propio Rahni P. Harris Jr.
La canción que da título al maxisingle, Ray-Gun-Omics, es una crítica social a la política económica del presidente Ronald Reagan, conocida como Reaganomics, que se basaba en la reducción de impuestos, el aumento del gasto militar y la desregulación de los mercados. La letra de la canción denuncia los efectos negativos de esta política, como el aumento de la inflación, la proliferación de armas nucleares, la contaminación ambiental y el incremento de la criminalidad. La canción tiene un ritmo pegadizo y una melodía sintetizada que recuerda al sonido de un rayo láser.
El maxisingle también incluye otra canción: Arcade Lover. Una canción de electro-funk con influencias del R&B y el soul, que invita a sentir la fuerza de la música y a bailar sin parar.
El maxisingle Ray-Gun-Omics fue un éxito comercial y crítico, y se convirtió en un referente del electro-funk y del hip-hop de los años 80.
