I Got It Goin’ On es el tercer y último single del álbum Lōc-ed After Dark de Tone Loc, uno de los raperos más exitosos de finales de los años 80. El single se lanzó en 1989 y alcanzó el puesto 18 en la lista de Hot Rap Singles de Estados Unidos y el 59 en la de Top R&B Singles. A pesar de no tener el mismo impacto que los anteriores singles Wild Thing y Funky Cold Medina, vendió más de 600.000 copias y obtuvo el disco de oro.
El tema I Got It Goin’ On muestra la habilidad de Tone Loc para rimar con un estilo desenfadado y divertido, sobre una base musical que combina elementos del electro y el hip hop. La canción fue producida, arreglada y mezclada por Matt Dike y Michael Ross, fundadores del sello Delicious Vinyl, que también trabajaron con otros artistas como Beastie Boys o Young MC. El single incluye también una versión remix y una instrumental con influencias del go go, un subgénero del funk originario de Washington D.C.
En la cara B del single se encuentran dos temas más: The Homies y The Fine Line Between Hyper and Stupid. El primero es una canción dedicada a los amigos de Tone-Loc, con un ritmo pegadizo y un estribillo que repite “the homies, on the street, every day of the week”. El segundo es una colaboración con Hashim, Akeem y Aleem, tres hermanos pioneros del electro y el hip hop, que aportan su toque de vocoder y sintetizadores. Ambas canciones fueron producidas por Brian “Sly” Foxworthy, un ingeniero de sonido que también trabajó con Ice-T o LL Cool J.
I Got It Goin’ On es un maxisingle que refleja la diversidad y la creatividad del hip hop de finales de los 80, y que forma parte de la historia de uno de los raperos más carismáticos y populares de esa época: Tone-Loc.
