The Associates

THE ASSOCIATES fue una banda escocesa de post-punk formada en Dundee en 1979 por el cantante Billy MacKenzie y el guitarrista Alan Rankine. Ganaron reconocimiento con una versión no autorizada de “Boys Keep Swinging” de David Bowie, lo que les valió un contrato con Fiction Records. Su álbum debut, The Affectionate Punch (1980), y la colección de sencillos Fourth Drawer Down (1981) recibieron elogios de la crítica. Alcanzaron el éxito comercial en 1982 con el álbum Sulk y los sencillos “Party Fears Two” y “Club Country”. La banda se disolvió en 1990, se reunió brevemente en 1993 y terminó definitivamente tras el suicidio de MacKenzie en 1997 y la muerte de Rankine en 2023
