The Lover Speaks

THE LOVER SPEAKS fue un dúo inglés de new wave formado por David Freeman (vocalista) y Joseph Hughes (arreglista y compositor) en 1985. Ambos habían trabajado juntos previamente en la banda punk The Flys. Inspirados por el libro “A Lover’s Discourse: Fragments” de Roland Barthes, comenzaron a escribir material y reclutaron al tecladista Barry Gilbert. En 1986, lanzaron su álbum debut homónimo bajo el sello A&M Records, producido por Jimmy Iovine. Aunque el álbum no tuvo un gran éxito comercial, su sencillo “No More ‘I Love You’s’” ganó notoriedad cuando fue versionado por Annie Lennox en 1995, alcanzando el número 2 en las listas del Reino Unido. La banda se disolvió en 1988 después de que su segundo álbum no fuera lanzado por la discográfica
